There are several different elements of TIG welding technique, which we will go over individually in the coming lessons. Each will build upon the last. In this lesson, I'll provide an overview so that you know what's coming.

Arc Starting
The first thing that needs to be done is to start the arc. I'll show you how to start with scratch start, lift arc and high frequency arc starting.

Arc Length
The distance between the end of the electrode and the workpiece, or the length of the arc, is extremely important to maintain good control of the weld puddle.

Torch Angle
The angle at which you hold your torch has a significant effect on the placement and movement of the weld puddle.

Addition of Filler Metal
Additional material needs to be added directly to the leading edge of the weld puddle.

Travel Speed
The speed at which you travel works hand in hand with the amperage setting to control the heat going into the material.
